CD Projekt Red has just confirmed that their next massive RPG, The Witcher 4 is slated for release sometime in 2028. This news sets the stage for an exciting year ahead, especially as the development team gears up for major showcases like Gamescom.

While there won’t be a major reveal for The Witcher 4 at the convention, the company is choosing to pivot and highlight the legacy of the series. Instead, they plan to feature the recently expanded Songs of the Past DLC from The Witcher 3, alongside some intriguing surprises planned for livestreams.

The ambition driving this project is clear. CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski recently revealed that over 500 developers are currently pouring their talent into building this new world. “This is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date,” Nowakowski stated, underscoring the monumental effort behind the project.

The scope of the vision extends far beyond a single game. The development is actually kicking off a new trilogy, positioning The Witcher 4 as the starting point for a grand saga that will eventually include The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6. If the roadmap holds, this sprawling new story could culminate by 2034, offering players a full six-year epic.

CD Projekt Red is aiming for the 2028 release date for The Witcher 4, a target that, like previous major titles, suggests there may be some necessary pauses in the development timeline. This mirrors the delays experienced by both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.

Beyond the main trilogy, the studio remains busy cultivating other intellectual properties. Development teams are simultaneously tackling other exciting projects, including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2, a new multiplayer Witcher game, and an intriguing title developed in partnership with Scopely. It seems the world of Geralt is about to grow even more expansive.
