Yujiro Hanma turns Tekken 8 into a muscle simulator
The world of fighting games just got a little more ridiculous, and it all started with a glimpse into the muscle-bound absurdity of anime. Bandai Namco recently dropped a trailer for Tekken 8, and while it gave us plenty of focus on everyone’s favorite Kangaroo, Roger, it also offered a tantalizing tease of one of the most absurdly powerful figures in all of anime: Yujiro Hanma.
This sneak peek wasn’t just about flashy moves; it was a masterclass in pure, unadulterated muscle. The trailer showcased Hanma’s infamous, toothy grin and his morning-splits flexibility—a physique so ridiculously powerful it made even Jean-Claude Van Damme look modest. It’s a visual testament to the Gigachad of fighting anime, promising a level of physical impossibility that demands attention.
For those unfamiliar with the source material, Hanma is essentially the undisputed apex predator of strength within the Baki universe. While many characters are bound by the rules of physics, Hanma is an anomaly—an undefeatable collection of muscle that defies conventional limits. He is the character who has stooped to feats that shatter reality, from stopping earthquakes with a punch to remaining completely impervious to lightning. His sheer, absurd power is legendary.
And Tekken 8 seems intent on capturing that impossible physique. The game itself was built in Unreal Engine 5, designed specifically to showcase hyper-realistic human anatomy in real time. To achieve this level of visceral detail, the developers implemented a system that doubles the digital bone structure from previous titles and automatically triggers auxiliary bones to drive realistic muscle bulging, twisting, and tightening based on movement. The result is breathtaking: dynamic muscle striations, bulging veins, and sweat effects baked directly into the character models.
This sophisticated technology is custom-made to highlight Hanma’s physics-defying physique, offering a split-second glimpse of muscle flexing before a knockout blow lands. The graphics don’t just show strength; they force the viewer to witness the sheer, impossible reality of the character’s power.
Beyond the spectacle of the muscle, Tekken 8 expanded the roster with familiar and exciting additions, including the surprising return of Heihachi Mishima, Anna, and even Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16. While the visual spectacle is undeniable, the journey for Tekken 8 has not been entirely smooth sailing, facing community scrutiny over controversial balance updates and aggressive monetization choices.
The development process also saw shifts behind the scenes, as longtime Tekken development chief Katsuhiro Harada departed Bandai Namco late last year to establish a new studio at SNK, carrying the legacy of the iron-fisted tournament with him.
