While the high-fidelity world of PC gaming often dominates headlines, some of the most successful titles—like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3—have proven that the console market remains a vital and thriving space. Despite current struggles with hardware shortages and rising costs, the industry giant CD Projekt Red remains confidently focused on the long-term viability of console platforms.

The perspective from the top is clear. Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt Red, has addressed the ongoing economic hurdles facing gaming hardware, including the RAM shortage and the general pressure of pricing. Rather than viewing these roadblocks as existential threats, Nowakowski believes consoles are fundamentally necessary tools for expanding the gaming audience.

“I’m not worried,” Nowakowski stated, dismissing concerns over potential delays or financial strain. He sees the role of consoles not as a primary focus for the studio, but as a necessary avenue for accessibility.

For Nowakowski, the importance of consoles lies in convenience and reaching a broader demographic. He emphasized that consoles provide an easy-to-plug-in experience that allows more casual or semi-casual players to enter the world of immersive gaming. In a market where accessibility matters, the ability to simply enjoy a game, regardless of the complexity of the setup, is key.

This belief is rooted in a core philosophy: content reigns supreme. Nowakowski argues that the reach of a game is ultimately determined by the quality of the experience, not solely by the platform it runs on. “Content is the king,” he asserts. “If the content is right, people will find a way to play it,” suggesting that phenomenal games will naturally find their way to any available consumer device.

This focus shifts the emphasis away from hardware battles and toward creative delivery. The goal is to ensure that phenomenal interactive narratives can reach players wherever they are. For the gaming community, this means that the landscape is less about platform wars and more about delivering the most compelling stories possible.

Even if next-generation consoles face delays or adjustments, the underlying demand for high-quality gaming content remains steadfast. The consensus is that consoles are here to stay, serving their purpose by broadening the audience and offering a convenient entry point into the gaming universe.
