The end of an era in zombie parkour is officially underway for Techland, as founder and CEO Paweł Marchewka announced the cessation of support for Dying Light: The Beast. This decision marks a shift in how the studio manages its ambitious, post-apocalyptic vision.

The game, which launched as a standalone title despite being initially conceived as an expansion for Dying Light 2, has seen its lifecycle come to a close. While players enjoyed substantial updates, including the popular Restored Land, the studio has decided to move forward with new creative horizons.

When speaking with fans, Marchewka clarified that The Beast was intended to be a complete, self-contained experience from its inception. He admitted that the five-year support model, while well-intentioned, proved less effective than anticipated for an AAA studio aiming to push creative boundaries.

“We’re not planning substantial new content for it,” Marchewka stated. The studio’s philosophy is clear: focusing resources allows them to deliver an unforgettable experience and push the boundaries of what games can achieve in their upcoming projects.

This strategic pivot is rooted in the demands of AAA development. Marchewka explained that supporting existing titles for extended periods, even with smaller teams, creates significant disruption to the workflow required for developing entirely new games. The constant expectation for frequent, massive, free updates further complicated the delicate balance of production.

Instead of focusing on long-term maintenance, Techland is redirecting its considerable talents toward its next grand adventure. The studio remains committed to supporting Dying Light 2, where the team currently maintains a larger development contingent for continuous updates.

The spotlight is now firmly on what comes next. While the company once aimed for a new fantasy RPG project, that endeavor was canceled last year. Now, the path forward remains a closely guarded secret, but the focus is entirely on crafting the next evolution of the Dying Light universe.
