Epic LOTR Game Re-Releases Reveal Stunning New Visuals
The world of Middle-earth is getting a serious re-release, and Aspyr is leading the charge in bringing beloved fantasy titles to the next generation of gaming hardware. Prepare your Switch 2, because epic tales from Tolkien are about to find a new home.
Aspyr has announced that definitive editions of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s Game of the Year and Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be coming soon to the Switch 2. This is more than just porting; the bundle promises a treasure trove of extra content.
The package, known as the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, will launch on September 30th for $70. To make this monumental re-release even more accessible, the bundle is currently offered at half price, dropping to $35 through October 6th at 2:59 AM ET.
While technical specifics are being kept under wraps, players can expect a substantial amount of bonus material, including story missions, exclusive skins, weapons, and gear sets drawn from the original DLC for each game.
Aspyr’s commitment to reintroducing these epic worlds is ongoing. They previously kicked things off with a Legacy Edition of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North back in August, hinting at a broader mission to bring more of Tolkien’s history to light.
The Shadow games themselves carry a fascinating pedigree. They were developed by Monolith Productions, but changes in the gaming landscape meant that the studio eventually shut down in 2025, leaving a legacy for these sprawling epics.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there. Aspyr is also eyeing brand-new titles to fill the void, bringing fresh fantasy to the console. This includes an RPG from Kingdom Come developer Warhorse, promising a deeply immersive experience, and a new title from Crystal Dynamics, known for their work on Tomb Raider, set to debut soon.
Meanwhile, the wider Middle-earth saga continues to unfold in cinema. Warner Bros. recently shared photos from their next film, The Hunt for Gollum, featuring Elijah Wood once again dressed as Frodo. This cinematic adventure is set to arrive in December 2027, keeping the legend of the Ring on the big screen.
