Grant Morrison writes James Bond comics
The world of espionage fiction is about to get a serious upgrade. While the question of who will take the license to kill remains open, a monumental announcement has landed regarding the enduring legend of 007: the visionary comic book writer Grant Morrison is set to helm the next chapter in the James Bond saga.
This isn’t just a simple adaptation; it’s a radical reinvention. Morrison, the brilliant mind behind iconic works like All-Star Superman and the co-creator of Damien Wayne, is teaming up with IDW and Ian Fleming Publications to bring Bond into a brand new, thrilling landscape.
IDW CEO Davidi Jonas described the partnership as a masterstroke in licensed properties. Rather than offering supplemental stories, the goal is to take radical swings, celebrating the core qualities of the franchise while simultaneously reinventing it for the modern comic book audience.
Morrison himself views the opportunity as a dream come true. He has long admired the mystique of the British spy, and the chance to place his own stamp on a character as legendary as King Arthur or Sherlock Holmes is too compelling to ignore.
The new six-part adventure is tentatively titled Sunbreaker. Morrison is aiming to create a definitive Bond story, weaving in all the beloved elements of the character’s world while injecting fresh, high-octane complexity.
In this new format, Bond will be thrust into unforeseen territory. He will face a world that mirrors our own—a deadly funhouse mirror of intrigue, violence, double-crosses, and deception. The narrative promises a journey where James Bond glides like a killer shark among minnows, embodying a character that is charismatic, ruthless, and unstoppable.
Expect Bond to navigate unfamiliar situations and confront foes that will stand alongside legendary villains like Goldfinger and Blofeld. It’s a promise of high-stakes action set in a deadly, yet familiar, landscape of global espionage.
While official release dates are still on the horizon, the anticipation is already building. Fans will be waiting eagerly to see how Grant Morrison transforms the iconic spy, taking him into a new dimension where danger and style collide.
