GTA 6 will be monstrous dev says
Rockstar Games has long been known for pushing the boundaries of open-world design, and this legacy seems to manifest most clearly in their relentless pursuit of sheer scale. As anticipation builds for GTA 6, observers are naturally wondering just how much bigger—and more detailed—this next behemoth will be.
Former producer John Ricchio, who has been involved in some of Rockstar’s most iconic titles, including GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption, shared his perspective on the studio’s track record. He noted that the escalating size of their games is not accidental; it appears to be a defining characteristic of their creative process.
“I think the fact that every single time they do a GTA, it’s ludicrously bigger than before is like something that I think about,” Ricchio commented. He mused that imagining the scope of GTA 6 requires accepting that it must be monstrous, or at the very least, incredibly detailed.
This expectation is rooted in a history of continuous expansion. Ricchio pointed out that even when comparing the flagship titles, the growth has been exponential. He observed that GTA 5 was significantly larger than its predecessor, GTA 4, and this trend continued across their universe, notably with the development of Red Dead Redemption.
For Ricchio, this constant expansion isn’t just about graphical fidelity; it fundamentally changes the player experience. He added that while ballooning the scope presents development challenges for the team, it ultimately achieves something profound: “it really does make you feel like you’re in a place.”
Despite his deep involvement with the studio, Ricchio expressed a touch of relief regarding the current phase of development. He acknowledged that working on such massive projects is intensely demanding and describes the period as difficult for his career.
However, this intensity doesn’t dampen his enthusiasm for the work being done. He finds the reaction from the public to his contributions to be incredibly rewarding, calling it “magic” and “so rewarding.”
The industry is watching with bated breath as Rockstar continues to set new standards for scale and scope. Analysts are already pointing to the immense commercial potential of the upcoming title, suggesting that GTA 6 is poised to be a financial juggernaut, with some predicting pre-order campaigns could reach up to $5 billion by the end of launch week.
