Layoffs hit Crossfire Developer staff
In the ever-shifting landscape of the gaming industry, even ambitious projects face unforeseen challenges. Crossfire developer That’s No Moon has recently navigated further staff reductions, impacting an undetermined number of employees within the studio.
The news ripples through the community as former employees confirmed their roles were affected on LinkedIn, indicating that positions in technical and environmental art were among those impacted by the restructuring.
Despite these operational shifts, the creative engine powering That’s No Moon remains focused on its groundbreaking project: Crossfire. Founded in 2021 by a collective of industry veterans, including talent from powerhouse studios like Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward, the team has been meticulously crafting a narrative-driven, single-player experience.
The vision for Crossfire was unveiled to the public during Summer Game Fest 2026, presented alongside Geoff Keighley. Players were given a tantalizing glimpse into a world defined by the unique mechanic of adaptive cover.
Game director Jacob Minkoff explained that this mechanic is designed to fundamentally change how players interact with their surroundings. It rewards tactical thinking, stealth, and dynamic repositioning, transforming movement into an active skill that must be mastered while playing.
The story set within Crossfire follows the journeys of enemy operators Layla Qassem and Delroy Cross as they fight for survival in a tenuous alliance. Their conflict forces them to confront their rigid worldviews during desperate missions, forcing enemies into an unexpected union.
The narrative pulls players into the shoes of characters dealing with intense internal struggles—Layla confronting her worldview during a harrowing mission in the Atlas Mountains, and Cross grappling with his beliefs during an operation for Sodara Biotech.
Crossfire is currently in development for major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, and is accessible to players who wish to wishlist the title on Steam, the PlayStation store, and the Microsoft store.
