The anticipation for the next chapter in the Call of Duty saga has officially kicked into high gear. Activision recently dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 first beta weekend, and the glimpse players received promises a level of spectacle that is set to redefine the franchise.

The trailer didn’t just offer a preview of new weaponry; it gave fans a tantalizing look at the core content of the beta, including a first-ever slice of the game’s single-player campaign. More excitingly, it showcased the revolutionary multiplayer map system that is set to become the defining feature of the new title: Kill Block.

Kill Block is not just another map; it is the most ambitious Call of Duty multiplayer environment ever conceived. Set within the fictional West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, this mode features modular battlegrounds that constantly reconfigure before every match. This dynamic design means that hundreds of potential map combinations are possible, ensuring that every session is a unique, unpredictable tactical experience.

The first beta window runs from April 21 to 25, offering players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC the chance to dive into the campaign mission Entrenched and test the limits of the Kill Block mechanics.

Activision is extending this opportunity, rolling out a second beta period from August 28 to 31. This second phase is open to all players without a preorder requirement and introduces fresh content, including new multiplayer maps, access to the massive Ground War mode, and a first look at Warzone’s new Resurgence Zodiac map.

The ambition of Modern Warfare 4 extends far beyond the multiplayer arena. The game is set to launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first Call of Duty title on a Nintendo platform since Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013. This marks a significant shift for the franchise, as it represents the first entry since Ghosts to bypass the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

With a planned launch date of October 23, the title is poised to arrive just ahead of other major releases, including the highly anticipated GTA 6 in November. Furthermore, Activision is making some strategic business shifts, notably ensuring that Modern Warfare 4 will not launch directly into Xbox Game Pass, signaling a new direction in Microsoft’s multiplatform release strategy.
