Miyazaki stops the Bloodborne hunt for Duskbloods
There’s a certain obsession among FromSoftware fans when it comes to the crimson-themed world of Bloodborne. Naturally, this has led many to speculate about any new project bearing similar thematic echoes, leading to persistent rumors that FromSoftware’s upcoming title, The Duskbloods, is somehow related to the beloved action RPG. But when the truth is peeled back, the connection is less mystical and much more straightforward.
The developers themselves have weighed in, confirming that while the thematic similarities are undeniable, the games are fundamentally separate. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mastermind behind the studio, clarified that despite the shared lineage, there is no direct link between the two titles.
“I expected this question, but it is a game with no connection whatsoever to Bloodborne,” Miyazaki stated. He noted that while similar terms and concepts exist in the gaming sphere, the thematic differences are significant.
This clarification effectively sets aside the hopes for a direct remake or remaster, refocusing attention onto what The Duskbloods actually represents. Instead of being a Bloodborne echo, the new project stands as a bold, distinct vision from the studio.
The Duskbloods is pitched as a fresh, innovative experience, moving away from the established single-player narrative focus. It is designed as a PvPvE action game where groups of up to eight players engage in online matches with diverse victory conditions.
This approach allows FromSoftware to explore ideas that didn’t fit neatly into the confines of Dark Souls or Demon’s Souls. Miyazaki suggested that the game is filled with concepts that simply could not be accommodated within the context of those earlier titles.
The gameplay itself promises a highly polished and dynamic experience. Leaked footage ahead of network tests showcased incredibly slick aerial combat, buttery smooth movement options, and even some delightfully bizarre mechanics, including a character turning into a dinosaur.
With the development underway, anticipation is building for the launch. While specific release dates remain under wraps, speculation points toward a possible release in September of 2026.
