MW4 Double XP Tokens Only Active During Matches
Call of Duty Unlocks Quality-of-Life Overhaul for Modern Warfare 4
Fans of Call of Duty are about to experience some much-needed quality-of-life improvements in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4, thanks to significant changes implemented by the Infinity Ward team. These updates are designed to address long-standing player frustrations and ensure that the experience focuses squarely on the action, not administrative annoyances.
One of the most immediately noticeable changes concerns the double XP tokens. Previously, these tokens would start counting down the moment they were activated, even in pre-game lobbies where players couldn’t earn any experience points. This meant tokens would linger and count down even when players were waiting. Now, Infinity Ward has adjusted the system so that the double XP timer only functions while players are actively engaged in a match. This adjustment means players can get much more use out of these valuable tokens, with them now counting down only during actual gameplay, typically lasting anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour.
This shift is a welcome change for the competitive community, allowing players to maximize their rewards and streamline the experience. Beyond XP tokens, the developers are also implementing changes aimed at reducing visual clutter and giving players more control over their gameplay environment. Infinity Ward is also introducing a toggle feature that allows players to completely turn off cosmetic skins. Instead of constantly being subjected to other players’ appearances, skins will be displayed as a default character model, giving players greater privacy and focus.
These updates are part of a larger effort by the studio to demonstrate that they are actively listening to the player base ahead of the game’s launch. While these are quality-of-life tweaks, fans are already looking ahead to potential bigger adjustments, such as modifications to skill-based matchmaking. As the Call of Duty franchise enters a highly competitive period, with major rivals like GTA 6 vying for attention, these internal refinements serve to boost engagement and ensure that the game remains a top-tier experience for everyone.
