Nvidia’s face-changing DLSS 5 tanks frame rates

The wait is finally over for some of the most anticipated AI-driven graphics technology, as Nvidia rolls out the much-debated DLSS 5 this week. This next generation of technology, which leverages generative artificial intelligence to apply advanced graphical filters to existing games, is making its debut, though initially in a single title.

The first game to experience this new visual upgrade is NBA 2K7. This launch signals a significant step forward in how games are rendered, promising smoother, more realistic visuals driven by smart AI processing.

The rollout is timed carefully, allowing the community and hardware manufacturers time to adjust. The GeForce drivers necessary for DLSS 5 are scheduled to arrive Thursday night in the US at 9pm PDT, followed by an early morning release Friday morning in the UK at 5am BST.

This exciting update is not available to everyone, however. Access to the benefits of DLSS 5 is restricted to users equipped with GeForce 50-series graphics cards, compatible laptops, and GeForce Now services. It means that while the technology is powerful, it is currently aimed at a specific tier of hardware.

For those with the right setup, the arrival of DLSS 5 brings a new standard for performance and visual fidelity, proving that the intersection of gaming and generative AI is rapidly becoming the future of high-end graphics.
