Onimusha Producer Explains The 20 Year Wait
For fans of the legendary franchise, the wait for a new chapter can feel like an eternity. The anticipation surrounding a revival of Onimusha has spanned more than two decades, since the release of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006.
That long hiatus has sparked countless hopes and dreams among the dedicated community, but behind the curtain of this extensive delay, the reality of game development proved far more complex than a simple scheduling conflict. As producer Akihito Kadowaki recently offered insight into the production timeline for the highly anticipated Way of the Sword, he admitted that bringing the project to fruition was a significant challenge.
“It was very difficult to get a team together,” Kadowaki explained, highlighting the obstacles inherent in reviving such a beloved and demanding property.
The difficulty wasn’t due to a lack of desire; internal teams had indeed harbored the ambition to create a new entry for some time. However, turning that vision into reality required navigating a landscape filled with competing priorities. The development process demanded substantial resources and extended time, which inevitably meant that other key franchises and broader resource allocations took precedence.
Kadowaki’s comments reveal the complex balancing act faced by developers aiming to honor legacy while managing current business demands. It is a reminder that even the most passionate fan-favorite games often come with a lengthy gestation period, where the sheer magnitude of the task dictates the pace of progress.
