The world of gaming is often filled with ambitious projects that, despite the promise, never quite reach the finish line. Franches built over time inevitably leave behind a collection of unrealized dreams, born from failed partnerships or ideas that simply couldn’t materialize. In the sprawling universe of Assassin’s Creed, this pattern is particularly evident, with numerous potential titles resting on the shelf.

One such fascinating, yet cancelled, concept was Assassin’s Creed Destiny. This vision emerged from a collaboration between the titans of gaming, Ubisoft and the Chinese conglomerate Tencent. This dream existed alongside other ongoing projects, including the highly anticipated mobile title, Assassin’s Creed Jade, which was first announced back in 2022.

The ideas for Destiny were remarkably similar to Jade in setting, yet offered a grander scope. Details suggested that Destiny would have been a full triple-A game playable on modern hardware, offering a grand return to Chinese history. It was envisioned as an epic set in China, specifically around 206 BCE, nine years after the events featured in Jade.

What made the Destiny concept compelling was its potential for deep immersion. It promised an exploration of historical grandeur, where players would move through intricate architectural layouts, engaging in stealth and combat against invading armies. The vision suggested a game where the action was steeped in shadow, focusing on taking out soldiers and enemies while navigating the shadows of a palace.

The combat mechanics were hinted at to be visceral and engaging. Details described the use of swords and spears, alongside a unique spinning blade that suggested a highly entertaining and dynamic fighting experience. This suggested a game that prioritized exploration and weighty, impactful conflict.

Despite the compelling imagery and potential, the project ultimately did not see the light of day. Destiny was canceled last year, a casualty of internal restructuring at TiMi, the group handling the project. While the fate of the game remains unknown, the existence of these detailed concepts proves that the potential for an epic historical adventure in the Assassin’s Creed universe remains vividly alive.
