Akio Otsuka, the voice behind countless iconic characters in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is calling on Konami to deliver a new entry in the series, regardless of whether director Hideo Kojima is involved.

Otsuka holds a unique place in the history of the franchise, boasting perhaps the most prolific run as Snake. While other figures like David Hayter are synonymous with the role, Otsuka provided the voice for pivotal characters across the series, including Solidus Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2 and Venom Snake in Metal Gear Solid 5. This extensive involvement means Otsuka’s connection to the Metal Gear universe runs deeper than just voice acting—it’s woven into the very fabric of the game’s history.

Though Otsuka once expressed a reluctance to return to the series unless Kojima was involved, his perspective has shifted. He now feels that the global fanbase deserves more, suggesting that Konami should prioritize creating a new Metal Gear experience for fans worldwide.

“There are Metal Gear fans all over the world, and they have been waiting patiently for it. So, for their sake, let’s make one more Metal Gear,” Otsuka suggests. He notes that since Kojima is currently focused on his own projects like Physint, he feels there is no reason to hold back on developing another title.

The dynamic between Otsuka and Kojima has always been a fascinating one. Otsuka has collaborated with the director on projects like the Japanese-dubbed voice for Die-Hardman, but when pressed about further collaboration, he playfully left the possibilities open to imagination.

Looking ahead, the focus is now on Kojima’s next endeavor, Physint. This spiritual successor project has generated buzz, with reports indicating that the actual budget for the game is significantly less than the rumored $400 million speculation.

The question remains: what will the next chapter of Metal Gear look like? With Kojima’s vision guiding the direction, and the rich history provided by legends like Otsuka, the potential for a truly epic continuation of the saga is palpable.
