Star Wars meets D&D in an official expansion

The magical realm of Dungeons & Dragons is preparing for an interstellar adventure. Wizards of the Coast has officially announced that their tabletop universe is set to expand into the galaxy far, far away with an upcoming Star Wars expansion, cementing its place within the growing landscape of Universes Beyond.

This epic collaboration follows the exciting reveal of the World of Warcraft expansion, which allowed players to embody every race and class in Azeroth—even bringing Pandaren into the fold. This trend shows a clear appetite for merging high fantasy with sprawling sci-fi sagas, promising fans something truly out of the ordinary.

The announcement arrived during what was already a packed schedule for the tabletop brand, highlighting D&D’s prolific output. This year alone kicks off with the Season of Magic, featuring the Arcana Unleashed expansion, which adds eight new subclasses, ten backgrounds, twenty-nine feats, and thirty-three spells to the game.

To keep the creative momentum going, D&D is also releasing supplemental content like Deadfall, a high-stakes magical espionage campaign designed for characters at levels 11 through 20. This busy slate demonstrates that Wizards of the Coast is keeping the narrative gears turning with numerous releases slated before the Star Wars addition.

Looking ahead to 2027, the roadmap promises even more expansive worlds. The subsequent seasons will delve into mature and diverse settings, including a return to the adult Dark Sun setting during the Season of Survival, and a journey back to Greyhawk with the new Crown of the Witch Queen expansion in the Season of Sword & Sorcery.

The final piece of this grand vision is the Star Wars-themed Season of Rebellion. Wizards of the Coast has made it clear that these Universes Beyond explorations are additive, not replacements, stressing that extra staff is brought in to support these projects rather than fundamentally altering the core offerings of D&D.

“We want to let our community know that D&D Universes Beyond is additive to the incredible roadmap we have for our own worlds,” the company stated. This approach ensures that while new universes are being explored, the deep roots and established lore of Forgotten Realms remain central to the Dungeons & Dragons experience.
