Tactical FPS Squad comes to consoles PS5 Alpha soon
The tactical shooter that captivated PC gamers, Squad, is finally making its way to the console, promising a new dimension for competitive 50v50 gameplay.
Developer Offworld Industries has officially announced that <Squad> will be launching on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. For PlayStation fans, the opportunity to dive into the game is imminent, with a playable alpha experience available between October 16 and 25.
While PlayStation players can begin testing the waters shortly, Xbox users will need to await the full release, unless the developers decide to offer an earlier testing opportunity for the console version.
Offworld Industries is not just porting the game; they are promising a thoroughly optimized console experience. This includes handpicked maps, bespoke performance polish designed for flawless execution, optional crossplay capabilities with other console players, and exciting new communication methods, such as a radial wheel, allowing players to issue commands and pings seamlessly.
The goal is to bring the intense, balanced 50v50 matches to the console platforms, delivering the tactical depth that made the original PC version a favorite.
Originally launched in 2020, <Squad> established itself by skillfully balancing the meticulous, milsim nature of titles like Arma with the fast-paced action found in mainstream shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield.
The studio’s ambition extends beyond console ports, continuing to build the world of tactical combat. Meanwhile, competitors are also pushing the boundaries of console gaming. For instance, <Bulkhead> has already announced that their title, <Wardogs>, is slated to arrive on consoles in 2028, and they are focusing on optimizing the experience for lower-end hardware, even targeting the Xbox Series S.
