Turn text into Roblox games using AI on your phone
The future of game development just got a massive upgrade, thanks to Roblox’s introduction of Build, an ambitious new AI creation tool that promises to democratize game-making. This isn’t just another update; it’s a revolution where simple text prompts can transform into foundational video games directly within the mobile app.
Imagine sitting down with a concept—perhaps something as whimsical as “a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles”—and watching that vision spring to life. That is the power of Build. The AI engine takes that simple instruction and automatically generates a starting point for creators, handling complex tasks like generating gameplay mechanics, designing environments, creating characters, setting visual styles, and even adding sound. It all happens seamlessly without the creator ever leaving the Roblox ecosystem.
At its core, Build is designed to shatter technical barriers. As founder and CEO David Baszucki puts it, this tool enables faster iteration and fewer technical constraints, offering creators more room to push their ideas than a single person or small team could achieve previously. This means that the massive creative potential of the gaming world is now accessible to everyone, regardless of prior coding experience.
The secret sauce behind this creation magic lies in Roblox’s proprietary technology. Build is powered by a broad set of AI models, incorporating both open-source and unique Roblox models. These models are trained on an exceptionally large dataset of 3D models and gaming-specific data, allowing them to generate functional 3D objects and entire scenes that integrate perfectly into existing creation tools.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. Alongside the intuitive building features, Roblox is rolling out advanced agentic tools specifically for professional creators. These new agents will act as virtual partners, playing tests before actual players, diagnosing performance issues, and identifying crucial ways to boost player engagement and retention—turning creation into a truly data-driven process.
The rollout is already underway. Select Build features, including the ability to publish games, will begin in public alpha to users in New Zealand starting July 28th for age-checked users nine and older. If a game passes robust safety checks, it will be globally available for users aged sixteen and older.
