Union demands strike to extend layoff talks with Star Wars studio
A major battle for creative control and job security is brewing within the French video game industry. The Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) union has issued a strong call to action against Quantic Dream following recent decisions regarding staff reductions.
The dispute centers on the planned layoffs initiated by the studio, which have sparked immediate resistance from the workforce. The union is demanding an open-ended strike to ensure their demands are met during ongoing negotiations.
This action is specifically aimed at halting further cuts and securing a fairer outcome for the employees involved in the development pipeline of titles like Star Wars Eclipse.
The core of the disagreement lies in the studio’s strategic direction. The STJV argues that the decisions made recently, particularly concerning projects such as MOBA Spellcasters Chronicles, demonstrate a disregard for the dedicated team members.
Currently, approximately 115 workers are directly affected by this industrial standoff. The union is pushing for an extension to the negotiating period, signaling that they will not accept the current timeline for resolving these critical employment issues.
This move elevates a specific workplace dispute into a wider statement about labor rights within the creative technology sector, underscoring the tension between corporate financial goals and employee stability. The union hopes this pressure will force a reevaluation of the studio’s operational priorities.
