Where Kratos left off The next God of War adventure

The saga of Kratos isn’t quite over, and the story is set to expand further into uncharted territory for the franchise. God of War developer Sony Santa Monica has announced that a new adventure will place the main face of the series at the center of the narrative, directly connecting to the emotional legacy of his late wife, Faye.

This new installment promises to be more than just another action game; it aims to weave continuity into the rich tapestry of Kratos’ history. The studio’s vision is clear: to use the story surrounding Faye not as an endpoint, but as a vital stepping stone that sets up and expands what comes next for the characters.

Cory Barlog, head of creative at Santa Monica Studio, articulated this ambition, noting that while the new game focuses on Faye, it remains part of the larger exploration of all the different characters within the God of War universe. “Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next,” Barlog explained.

He added that Kratos’ journey will always remain central, emphasizing the franchise’s enduring core. “There’s always going to be Kratos games, like, throughout the whole history. We’re super excited about that.”

While details surrounding the next major title remain tightly guarded, the anticipation is fueled by other exciting developments within the God of War ecosystem. Fans can look forward to the world of Faye’s experiences in the afterlife following the launch of God of War Laufey in February 2027.

The studio is also maintaining a busy development schedule, tackling several major projects simultaneously. This includes the release of the metroidvania-inspired spin-off, Sons of Sparta, earlier this year, and work on remaking the original God of War trilogy, which is currently in development.

The current focus remains on the upcoming experiences surrounding God of War Laufey, which was officially revealed during a dedicated gameplay preview back in June. With new narrative threads being woven into the timeline, fans are eagerly awaiting Santa Monica’s next creative leap, promising deeper emotional and epic adventures for Kratos and his companions.
