Blizzard Entertainment is setting the stage for a massive return to the roots of Azeroth with the unveiling of World of Warcraft Forever, the next evolution of WoW Classic. This project isn’t just a simple update; it’s a deep dive into the original world, promising classic nostalgia wrapped in fresh, expansive gameplay.

Revealed during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, WoW Forever aims to give long-time Classic fans the “forever” experience they have desired for years. Unlike previous Classic iterations that pushed the narrative toward newer expansions, WoW Forever decides to keep the focus squarely on the beloved original settings: the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

The scope of the new content is truly staggering. Blizzard is adding up to 1,000 new quests to explore, alongside several revamped zones and three entirely new areas that fill in the map with previously inaccessible locations. Adventurers will also have access to nine new dungeons, two raids, and an additional PvP battleground, deepening the opportunities for exploration and conflict.

Adding another layer of novelty, the game introduces the Skyborne elves as a brand-new playable race. One of these new zones is dedicated to their starting area, promising a unique perspective for players to experience.

Beyond the new geography, the core mechanics are also undergoing refinement. Classes will receive revamped talents and skills, and players will be able to experiment with new class and race combinations. For those who prefer the old school feel, the game will also include an option to toggle between HD visuals and classic graphics.

Blizzard has deliberately kept the level cap at 60, underscoring a foundational design philosophy. The focus is clearly shifting away from the relentless pursuit of the endgame and toward the journey itself. As the developers stated, the world is intended to be a character, and the social aspects of the game should take center stage.

This shift means that many of the exciting new quests and dungeons will be perfectly suited for characters under level 60, encouraging players to immerse themselves in the world rather than simply chasing the final destination.

For players who wish to maintain the original experience, the standard version of WoW Classic remains fully playable. The excitement doesn’t have to wait; a playable beta is set to go live on September 17th, with the full version of WoW Forever launching on November 4th.
