WoW: Forever joins Classic and Vanilla in November
For years, the World of Warcraft community has lived in a state of hopeful speculation about the future of WoW Classic. Now, that waiting has ended. Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled World of Warcraft: Forever, an ambitious new iteration of the sprawling MMORPG set to coexist alongside Classic and Vanilla.
This isn’t just a simple update; it represents a complete reimagining of the experience. Executive producer Holly Longdale revealed the game during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, painting a picture of a fresh start with the evocative phrase, “a new beginning that never ends.” She casually dubbed the project Classic Plus, suggesting a deep respect for the roots of the game while looking toward infinite possibility.
The countdown is officially on. Fans can expect to dive into this new world in just seven weeks, with a release date set for November 4. The excitement is already building, fueled by the promise of returning to the foundational magic that cemented WoW’s place in gaming history.
To ease the transition for both veterans and newcomers, the development team is kicking off the process with a beta starting this Thursday, September 17. Longdale emphasized a relaxed approach to development, noting, “There’s no rush here. It’s the journey that counts.” This philosophy suggests an emphasis on quality and player experience above all else.
What does the world of Forever promise? It’s packed with expansions and deep content. Players will explore four brand-new zones, including the majestic Mount Hyjal and the intriguing Zephras Isle, which serves as a perfect starting point. Furthermore, existing zones from the original game are set to be significantly expanded.
The action won’t stop there. The new game introduces exciting new mechanics for combat, featuring expanded dungeons and raids designed to accommodate groups of ten or twenty players. Players will also unlock new skills and talents, and a brand-new playable race called the Skyborne will add fresh dimensions to the lore.
Visual fidelity is also a major focus, with updates that include toggles for both SD and HD character models and overall updated visuals. Beyond the world itself, players will have access to over 1,000 quests, ensuring a massive amount of content to explore and master.
The announcement follows a flurry of related news, confirming that the WoW universe remains vibrant. While the focus is on the expansive world of Forever, the broader ecosystem is buzzing with developments, including upcoming titles like WoW: The Last Titan slated for next year and other ongoing community discussions about real-money transactions within the game.
