The cinematic landscape is buzzing with the sound of gunfire and high-stakes competition, as Hollywood dives headfirst into the vast universe of video game franchises. Two massive shooters, Arc Raiders and The Finals, are set to make their way to the big and small screens, signaling a major shift in how interactive worlds are being translated into cinematic narratives.

This exciting adaptation effort is the result of a powerful collaboration between Chernin Entertainment, known for producing sensational horror experiences like Backrooms and Netflix’s The Last House, and Nexon, the parent company behind the game developers at Embark.

The partnership aims to transform these popular titles into deeply integrated transmedia experiences, feeding the passion of the global player community with new formats. Patrick Söderlund, founder and CEO of Embark, emphasized this synergy, stating that the agreement is the next big step in growing both Arc Raiders and The Finals into major franchise potential.

Both games offer unique, visually stunning settings ready for screen adaptation. Arc Raiders is set in the far future of 2180, following a devastating descent of an army of robots called ARC that overwhelmed human resistance, forcing survivors underground. Players in this title navigate the surface, scavenging for the materials needed to survive.

The Finals plunges players into a dystopian 2100 reality, thrusting them into a high-intensity virtual reality combat game show where survival hinges on strategy and precision.

David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, sees immense potential in these properties. He noted that Arc Raiders and The Finals possess the kind of ambitious, globally appealing worlds packed with stories that could become major film and television franchises.

While the exact timeline for these adaptations remains to be seen, the creative teams at Embark Studios and Chernin Entertainment are already working closely. Their goal is to ensure that the creativity that defines these atmospheric worlds extends seamlessly into all new cinematic formats, promising viewers an epic journey through these futuristic conflicts.
