Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development
No news is good news, they say. But for some long-awaited video game sequels, even the smallest update feels like a glimmer of hope. That is the case for Beyond Good & Evil 2, which remains stubbornly in development hell, yet is slowly, surely, staying alive.
The saga continues with some fresh insights from the team. Rik Godwin, the lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, recently took to social media to provide a brief update on the project.
Godwin explained that while he has spent the past few months working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a support and consultant capacity, he is allowed to say that some progress has been made.
This development naturally involves the regional teams. Since Ubisoft Montpellier leads the project’s development, it makes perfect sense that the Bordeaux studio would be assisting. This is particularly true given that Bordeaux has historically served as a support hub for Ubisoft’s various teams, having played a key role in developing titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the expansion Claws of Awaji.
The wait for this sequel is immense. It has been nearly ten years since Ubisoft first re-revealed Beyond Good & Evil 2 at E3 2017, and nearly two decades since the studio announced the action-adventure sequel back in May 2008.
While some rumblings suggested development was ongoing as far back as November 2025 and January 2026, the reality has been that progress has been slow at best, and perhaps even invisible.
Despite the extended timeline, Ubisoft continues to insist that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will eventually see release in due time. However, fans should temper their expectations. At the current rate of development, waiting for the sequel might mean waiting even longer, perhaps beyond the current console generation. The quest for the next chapter of this iconic adventure remains, for now, a marathon rather than a sprint.
