GTA 6: Project Americas and the Miami Blueprint

Before the neon glow of Vice City, there was a much larger, more expansive vision. As the development of Grand Theft Auto 6 unfolded, the scope of the project was nothing short of epic, hinting at a world far grander than the single state it ultimately occupied.

According to a recent feature by Jason Schreier for Bloomberg, the initial ambition for the game was massive: it was code-named Project Americas. This codename reflected a desire to map and explore vast territories, aiming to cover extensive swaths of both North and South America.

The scope of that vision, however, eventually encountered the realities of development. While the concept began with continental ambitions, the focus narrowed significantly as the project moved into production.

Ultimately, the expansive map was scaled back, pulling the focus away from the continents and concentrating the action into a specific, vibrant region: Miami and its surrounding areas. It’s a perfect illustration of how massive creative ambitions often get refined, channeling epic potential into a focused, unforgettable setting.
