Kratos actor says Sony respects fans
The voice of Kratos has spoken, offering a powerful nod of respect toward his predecessor, TC Carson, in light of the forthcoming remake of the God of War trilogy. This sentiment highlights how deeply cherished the legacy of the franchise is for many fans and underscores the importance of honoring those who came before.
During a recent panel discussion at Fan Expo Boston, Christopher Judge voiced his appreciation for Sony Santa Monica’s commitment to the series. He emphasized that the success of the new iteration is inextricably linked to Carson’s magnificent contribution, stressing that he is glad the past is not forgotten because of where the franchise stands today.
“I’m glad it worked out,” Judge commented. “And the thing I’m glad, too, is that TC isn’t forgotten because where we are now is because of TC Carson and how magnificent he is.”
The remake itself, announced in February, promises a top-down rework of the original three adventures starring Kratos. While details remain focused on Carson’s involvement, the project is generating excitement simply by allowing newer audiences to discover the history of the iconic character.
Judge expressed curiosity about the creative direction, noting that while he is happy with the outcome, there remains an element of anticipation regarding the specific artistic choices made by the developers. He admitted a slight reservation about some of the changes, observing that reimagining worlds necessarily involves liberties.
He pointed out that the revised games feature smaller worlds and different dynamic setups compared to previous installments. Judge acknowledged that in these new takes, Kratos is presented more two-dimensionally, without the immediate presence of a companion or some older comedic set-pieces, suggesting that not every adaptation needs to be a perfect mirror of the source material.
Ultimately, Judge credited the studio for successfully maintaining the series’ momentum over two decades. He concluded that Sony Santa Monica’s reverence for its fanbase is what keeps the franchise strong. This dedication extends beyond development; it is rooted in genuine respect for the community.
“They actually respect the fans,” Judge affirmed. “You ask people to pay for your product, or people invite you into their homes, the least you can do is respect what they have to say, and Sony Santa Monica actually does that.”
With the legacy firmly established, attention now turns toward the next chapter in Kratos’s journey. The focus is set on the upcoming title, God of War: Laufey, which follows Kratos as he navigates the underworld in search of his wife.
