The journey to embodying a cosmic hero is often paved with dedicated hours, and for actor Aaron Pierre, that dedication took the form of a marathon television series. Filming for over 100 days on Lanterns provided him with an invaluable foundation as he prepares for his next major step in the DC cinematic universe.

“What was an enormous gift was having those eight hours of HBO television to live with before going onto Man of Tomorrow,” Pierre shared. This lengthy exposure didn’t just provide a backdrop; it allowed him to fully inhabit the role of John Stewart, building depth and understanding before transitioning to the next phase of his story.

Pierre expressed immense gratitude for the time granted by the production. He noted that having 106 days working with the character before entering the wider DC cinematic universe was a remarkable opportunity. “That is not a given. I am very grateful I had that,” he stated, reflecting on how his time on Lanterns shaped his performance in Man of Tomorrow, allowing him to approach the role with a deep sense of context.

Behind the scenes, the creative freedom also played a role. Showrunner Chris Mundy indicated that the team was not given a rigid mandate on where to end the character arc in the series finale, which paradoxically gave them the space to tell a story that felt authentic to them. “We weren’t tasked with having any specific landing point,” Mundy explained, “which was great for us because it gave us freedom to land the story where we wanted to land the story.”

The narrative arc of Lanterns is now available exclusively on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland, offering fans a chance to delve into the universe. As Pierre steps into the next chapter, he is joining a truly massive crossover ensemble for Man of Tomorrow. The cast is stacked with DC royalty, including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, alongside stellar performances from Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Milly Alcock, Lars Eidinger, and Xolo Maridueña.
