Slap passengers in Double Fine’s goofy bus driving sim

The indie game world is buzzing with creative energy, and Double Fine has certainly been in the thick of it since their recent split from Xbox. Instead of slowing down, the once-talented studio has channeled their creative energy into some delightfully absurd projects, proving that even post-breakup, the magic of game development endures.

Their recent activities demonstrate a playful spirit. They recently launched a game jam Kickstarter campaign centered around the ambitious concept of making Brutal Legend 2. While the goal for the project is, of course, quite monumental, it certainly captures the studio’s signature, high-stakes sense of humor.

But the creativity doesn’t stop there. Now, Double Fine has unveiled their first game following their departure from Xbox: Thank You Bus Driver.

Thank You Bus Driver promises a lighthearted and chaotic experience, taking players into the role of a bus driver tasked with transporting passengers. The core mechanic involves managing the journey and, crucially, slapping passengers who fail to adhere to the rules—a touch of physical comedy injected into the job simulator.

This new title leans heavily into the studio’s knack for creating uniquely funny and chaotic scenarios. It’s a reminder that even when the big partnerships shift, independent developers continue to innovate, delivering games that are as wild and engaging as they are ridiculous.
