New Xbox Update Lets You Choose Saves to Delete
Gaining Control: Xbox Delivers Major Customization Update to Insiders
Xbox is rolling out a significant console update to its Xbox Insiders community, focusing on giving players much-needed control over their home screen, save files, and profile customization. This fresh batch of features aims to transform the user experience, making the console feel less like a static interface and more like a personalized command center.
For those diving into the update, the changes immediately impact the way players interact with the Home screen. Tiles, including the entire Play History section, are now more easily removed from the top list. But the changes go deeper than just organization: Xbox has introduced a new immersive background mode. By simply clicking the right thumbstick, users can hide the Home page and interface entirely, letting the beautiful background art take center stage for a truly immersive visual experience.
Beyond visual flair, the update delivers powerful tools for managing game storage. Players now have granular control over their local saves via a new Manage Local Game Saves section in the settings. This allows users to view, sort, and delete individual save files based on size. This is a game-changer, empowering players to effortlessly clear out old or unnecessary saves and free up valuable storage space, without compromising the integrity of their progress. Importantly, recent save-game data remains securely backed up and synchronized across all devices.
Personalization is another major focus. While profile badges have always been a feature, this update finally provides transparency. Players can now view detailed information about each earned badge, including exactly when and how they were unlocked. This recognition extends to historic achievements, granting a new Day One profile badge to those who played on an Xbox One on its November 22, 2013 launch day.
Quality-of-life improvements also make life easier for gamers. Wishlists are now smarter, automatically removing purchased games from the list to keep things tidy. These small, thoughtful enhancements reflect a commitment to streamlining the console experience.
These updates align with the broader vision of Xbox leadership. CEO Asha Sharma has emphasized the importance of console improvements recently, adding features like chat audio in game captures, control over cloud saves, and larger wishlists. These continuous refinements are part of a larger effort to evolve the console ecosystem.
These innovations occur as Xbox is navigating significant shifts in its business strategy. Sharma is currently focused on “resetting” the Xbox business, which includes a commitment to laying off 3,200 employees over the next year and divesting from studios like Double Fine and Compulsion Games. This strategic recalibration is happening while the market itself is seeing rising prices; the latest price hike is now in effect worldwide, raising the cost of 512GB Xbox consoles by $100 and 1TB models by $150.
